FOR PROPHETS AND APOSTLES

How do you love poverty?

Seriously, how am I supposed to love poverty enough that I become poor in spirit? How do you embrace lack? There's nothing there to embrace! Living the Christian life like the early Church seems impossible in this fancy age of consumerism. I like consuming! I like my standard of living. I like my place in the top 1% of the world's wealthiest people (anyone making $35,000 or more is in the top 1%). I don't want to be in the bottom 99%.

However, Jesus said a couple things about wealth and satisfaction in Luke 6.

But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.
Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.
